My computer recently started refusing to run SecondLife or Poser; apparently the install got corrupted, so we decided to reinstall Windows.

Seems that it's a hardware problem as well as a software - there're problems loading ANY OS.

I'm going to be offline for a while - the Boy is going to try to build his computer and give it to me, but it'll be a bit considering his schedule.

*sighs*

This sucks. I'm on his laptop right now, but, you know, it's /his/ - which means he needs it for classes and stuff.

Wish us luck. We're going to try one more time to load Linux, then we're going to try Windows XP again - and if that doesn't work, the box is screwed.

I've not posted in ages, I know - I've been hellaciously busy with a new shop, Prancing Harlot Designs. (NSFW!) It's a collaboration between myself and Alyssa Jessop, a really accomplished scripter and builder.

We have a lot of other locations, but that's the main one, and really the prettiest. (I'm not biased at all, really.)

I love horses. I'm "typical" in that respect, that my childhood was filled with the usual girly horse-adoration, despite mucking out stalls and being dumped unceremoniously off the back of my cantankerous old gelding a couple of times.

Coming to SL, I never really thought of horses until I saw the AKK horses. And they're fine... to a point.

Aesthetically, they bugged me. I tried modding Phedre's, but I just got overwhelmed after a while. So I put it away, and ignored it.

So I wandered around for a bit, until I saw a demo horse made by Erin Talamasca (she of Nectaris Art fame). Even with it's demo pattern making it difficult to see, I was wowed.

"That... it looks like a HORSE!"

I bought a demo horse, tried it on (they're attachments, not vehicles), and didn't wait a minute before spending the 600L to buy an actual version (the one you see in the picture). 600L is nothing when you consider that the AKK horse I purchased was easily 1200, and sidesaddles cost extra. Erin offers sidesaddle poses as a matter of course (of horse, of horse. Sorry, couldn't resist).

The horses don't move or prance - the amount of prims make it prohibitive, what with the top limit of prims being 256. However, that's fine by me - fewer scripts makes for a happier sim, and fewer things to break.

These are modify/copy/no transfer. This is a Very Good Thing, as I'm going to be modifying mine incessantly.

Go check them out! Demos are 1L a pop. I may wind up making small mods for them - they're a LOT of fun.

Especially for a former horse-crazy girl like me.

Significant to me in terms of SL not just because of the hilarious party I'm at at Phreak Isle, but because it's my rezday.

December 31st, 2005, I was invited to join SL by my long-time friend Alyssa. So I did, as Rowan Pontoppidan.

It's been a rollicking year.

Thanks to all of you who made it so special, with all it's highs, lows, and small calm moments snatched and cherished.

I won't post my resolutions here, but I will say this:

Includes two flexiprim tails, one modifiable, one scripted to have shiny toggle and 11 color options; twelve undershirts, twelve underpants, and twelve socks, one of each modifiable for custom colors; bindi AOs in both silver and gold, with rubys and pearls; bindis without AOs; a ZHAO for those who dislike voice-controlled AOs; mehndi gloves, two shirt-layer shirts, and one really tired creator.

It'll be up in Sonamu soon. I'm rebuilding the store and releasing /six/ new avatars over the next week, assuming I don't just fall down dead beforehand.

Virtual Land Lawsuit Reveals Dark Side of Second Life

On October 4, 2006, a first-of- its-kind lawsuit was filed in Chester County, Pennsylvania seeking remedies for a series of virtual land deals gone sour. The lawsuit was originally filed in magistrate court on May 1, 2006 and re-filed with a more detailed complaint because of importance of issues being addressed in the case.

The suit names Linden Research, Inc. and its CEO Philip Rosedale as Defendants and seeks financial damages in the thousands and specific performance requesting a return of the land and access to it, in part for a breach of a virtual land auction contract, fraud and violations of the Pennsylvania Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law and California Unfair and Deceptive Practices Act, among other claims. This suit is unique because the land does not actually exist in the real world and no law has yet been created in the United States with regard to the unique nature of virtual land.

The three of you who read this blog at all probably know that the hottest thing on earth for me is serious geekery. Seifert Surface is known for his awesome sculptures.

I feel really pleased to have stumbled upon this one, because it just gleams, both in terms of surface (no pun intended) and in terms of artistry molded by mathematics.

In the sim next door to me (I live/work/play in Sonamu), there's a large sign.

Needless to say, this is on a 512 square meter plot. It doesn't require tier beyond what you pay for a premium account.

So what does this genius and paragon of good planning use his plot for?

A tile floor that happens to jut into his neighbor's parcel.

Indispensables of SL

1) The Mystitool. I unpacked mine today and I've already used it about a billion times. The features are too long to really list here, but I adore it - just to mention a couple, the teleport history, the URL snagger, and the color converter. (The maker is someone I met in Caledon.)

2) The Esperanza hair by Zyrra Falcone by way of Panache Island. Not for the faint of RAM, this hair is some of the nicest I've seen in SL.

3) AOs: The WetIkon with Reverie's "Female Stand Set" and LostDog's Female Walk 1 and Run. I honestly do not know what to tell men, as most male override sets are... well... silly. Best so far? Abranimations, located on Devil's Moon.

4) Shoes? Lassitude & Ennui for anything beyond simple black pumps or sneakers. Oh, and Moopf Murray's roller skates/iceskates are perfect.

5) L&E is possibly the best place for jewelry.

6) Skins? Naughty Designs, if you can swing it - it's worth it.

7) Clothes. You know... too many tastes, too little time. I like Pixeldolls, the occasional Bare@Rose getup, and the now-defunct Dazzle's stuff.
